Oral History Collection

Interviewees

Introduction

Starting in the 1970s Minnesota started collecting the histories of Supreme Court Justices. The first step was to do oral history interviews with retired justices and a number of these were done by the Minnesota Historical Society(MNHS). Some of the audio recordings and transcripts are now available online through the historical society. In the 1980s the Minnesota State Law Library and the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society (MSCHS) began creating Judges Career Books and doing oral history interviews. These interviews were transcribed and are now available electronically. The videos of the interviews are being digitized to make them available online as well. In 2017, the MNSCHS completed work on a grant-funded project to document the early Court of Appeals and interviewed a number of judges.

Recordings and transcripts are available at the library for most of the interviews included here.
