Daniel Buck was born in Boonville, New York, on September 28,1829. He received an academic education in his native state and moved to Minnesota in 1857 and began to practice law in the city of Mankato. He was later elected County Attorney of Blue Earth County, an office which he served for four years before he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1866, and to the Senate in 1881. He was elected Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court for term commencing January 1, 1894, from which he resigned on November 14, 1899 because of his wife's ill health. He died in Mankato, Minnesota, on May 21, 1905.
