History of the Minnesota Judicial Center

Art

Minnesota Percent for Art in Public Places acquires art installations for public buildings and spaces. State law 16B.35 allocates up to one percent of the cost of state building projects to go towards public art for the site. Competitions were held and two of these projects are part of the current Judicial Center. The Judicial Center Plaza has an unnamed art installation by Richard Fleischner which was installed in 1990. It incorporates stone, geometric shapes and trees. The Falling Water Skylight, by Pat Benning (formerly Benincasa) and Michael Pilla was installed above the grand staircase in 1995. The glass has a special coating that added color without blocking the light.
