In 1849 the territory of Minnesota was created. The first term of district court in the territory was in Stillwater in August of 1849 and these Rules were written and read in court there. The document was written by Harvey Wilson, Clerk of Court.
This document was discovered in a closet of the Historic Washington County Courthouse. The person who found it recognized its significance and it was donated to the Minnesota State Law Library. It has been digitized and it is kept in an acid-free folder to protect it.
